Kathryn Appleton

,

Kathryn Appleton is currently serving as the Interim Director of Marketing and Sales at SFMOMA where she oversees all paid advertising and digital marketing for the museum. Previously, she worked at San Francisco Opera for 8.5 years in marketing with a focus on subscriptions and was promoted to the Director of Marketing three weeks before the city shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As the director of marketing, she and her team across marketing, box office, front of house, and retail successfully shepherded the company through two season cancellations, growing and retaining audiences along the way through outdoor and digital programs, including the first ever online Ring festival and a drive-in Barber of Seville. When the opera house reopened in 2021, over half of all single ticket buyers were new buyers. Kathryn had the honor of launching the historic 2022-23 Centennial Season marketing campaign. For that season, she also introduced a widely successful ticketing initiative to drive new audiences. Kathryn is well-versed in pricing strategies for subscriptions and single tickets, and successfully applied pricing analysis in 2022 to maximize revenue potential, resulting in an increase of the average ticket price by 12%.

A theater enthusiast, Kathryn volunteers remotely as the managing director of Theater in Asylum, a small, ensemble-driven theater company based in Brooklyn, NY. During her free time, Kathryn can be found running, baking, and seeing live theater.
